Help
Getting started with Bumpstart, and answers to common questions.
Getting started
- Create an account with your email address or your Google account. Email sign-ups get a verification email first.
- Create your shop. Each shop keeps its own customers, machines, parts and invoices.
- Fill in your shop's details under Settings: your address, labor rate and how you bill.
Your team
The shop owner invites people from Members. Each person gets an email invitation and joins with their own login, so nobody shares a password.
Every member has a role. Under Roles, the owner decides what each role can see and do: for example, whether a technician can see flip profits or create invoices.
Taking in a repair
- Choose New repair on the Dashboard or on Flips & Repairs.
- Pick the customer, or add a new one right there. If they've brought the machine in before, pick it so its history stays in one place.
- Note the machine's condition on arrival and how the job is billed: hourly, or a flat rate.
- As you work, log time and parts on the work order. When it's done, create the invoice from the work order.
Logging a flip
A flip is a machine you own and are fixing up to sell. Choose New flip, record what you paid and where it came from, then log parts and labor as you go. When it sells, Bumpstart shows the profit on that unit.
Parts and inventory
Inventory holds every part you stock. Quantities change only when a delivery is received, a part is used on a job or flip, or you correct a count, so there's always a record of where a number came from. Set a reorder point on a part and it shows up on the reorder list when you run low.
Barcode scanners
Most USB and Bluetooth handheld scanners work with no setup. They act like a keyboard: scan a barcode and it's typed into Bumpstart. The Zebra (Motorola/Symbol) LS2208 is one example; plug it in and scan.
- Barcode labels Bumpstart prints on a receipt or label printer are Code 128, which handheld scanners read by default.
- No scanner? A phone or tablet camera can scan instead.
- Scanner options are under Settings.
Printing
Invoices open as a printable page: print them, or save them as a PDF from your browser's print dialog. Tag labels for machines print the same way. Receipt printers are set up under Settings.
Using Bumpstart on an iPad
Bumpstart runs in the browser. On an iPad, open https://my.bumpstart.app in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It then opens full screen like an app.
Plans and billing
Bumpstart is free to start. Paid plans add room for more machines, work orders and team members, plus features like hardware scanning and receipt printing. The shop owner can see and change the plan under Billing. A cancelled plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
